Today I gained access to the new Facebook Timeline – It’s not set to be released until October 19th. But I wanted to show a few of the changes and the overall look of our new profiles.
When Facebook first announced the new timeline everyone seemed to be so against it. I guess I’m just the type of person who rolls with changes with a smile. I embrace change and actually like it. The timeline is something new and different and I think Facebook has needed this change for awhile. What I like about it is that your easily able to look back at the years with just about one click.
Facebook has made some changes that I don’t think users are going to be even using that much but if and when they do its pretty cool to look at someones life on a timeline even if it was only launched in February 2004.
The Cover Photo
It’s basically any photo that you’d like to display above your profile photo. It’s approx 850 x 315 in size but any of your photos will do because Facebook allows you to resize and reposition current photos to fit into this space.
The Timeline
The timeline is located on the right hand side of the screen and allows you to click on months and years. There is also a timeline that splits up the just below your central info bar. If you put your mouse over it will change to a plus sign and you can scroll through your timeline.
Life Events
This is basically why we are on Facebook to let everyone know about our life events. The status bar hasn’t changed much its located in a centralized easy to see area where you can quickly choose your options. The new options available on the status bar are “health and wellness” and “Milestones and experiences”
Overall, I’ve been seeing a lot of great Timelines already being created by Facebook Developers. Although some people don’t agree with change, I think this is a much needed change for Facebook users.
